Muppets Haunted Mansion

To say this project was a shock would be an understatement. I was blown away when I was asked to create art for this special Disney+ movie and looking back on it I still can’t believe it happened. I created 4 pieces for this show and received a screen credit which was a dream come true.

The first piece I created was the MacGuffin poster (I am responsible for the all the art EXCLUDING the text.) We bounced around a few ideas that included clever ways to mask the face of the character so as not to reveal any surprises.

I also toyed with the idea that the cards would disappear and reveal the face at the end. That idea wasn’t used in the final movie.

The second piece was the funeral portrait for Gonzo. It was a simple black and white portrait that was used in a sequence that depicted Gonzo’s funeral. This was a ton of fun. I love getting in and scratching out the details of a portrait, and when it is a muppet that is covered in fur there is a lot more detail to cover.

The final two pieces were created when I was asked if I could do one of the changing portraits. I jumped at the opportunity and was assigned the Newsman

This project was one of those dreams that come out of nowhere and really make you feel like you are doing something special. Working on it was difficult and stressful, but the adrenaline and excitement outweighed all the terror and doubt.

Me posing with my Gonzo portrait inside Disneyland, it was on display as a promo for the movie. I’m also wearing my fancy Art Dept. hoodie that was a gift from the Art Director.
