Week 3 – Grodd, Carrie Fisher, Gandalf.

It’s the third week of my new format. It’s nice to have a place to recap all my work throughout the week to remind myself that I was productive!

nobananasThe week started with a new digital painting I did of The Flash. I don’t work purely digital very often, so this was kind of new to me. I wanted to have it started and finished in a timely manner so I didn’t spend as much time as I normally would second guessing everything. Overall I’m very pleased with the outcome, and I hope to work on some more digital stuff soon. I’m a 2d animator at heart and anytime I get a chance to draw in a cartoony style I’ll take it!

carrie fisher favOn Tuesday I posted the finished Leia painting and got a nice little surpise on Twitter. Carrie Fisher was the first person to favorite it! Knowing that she saw the painting and liked it still makes me smile. The painting is done and off to a new home, but I’ll keep the memory.

The Hobbit 2Last year I worked on The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug set for Cryptozoic. I had completely forgotten about the set until, on Wednesday, I received word that the cards could be posted and I was given my Gandalf oil painting as a return. He is my one and only artist proof for the set and he is currently on sale here.

Han progressCurrently I’m a couple layers into this Han Solo 5″x7″ and with any luck this piece will be done by mid week. I enjoy keeping things loose in the beginning and trying to figure out which colors would work best underneath the layers that follow. With oils I am never 100% sure of anything so it constantly feels new. I like that.

sketchesThe week finished off with a compilation of my sketches. I like to put them all together in a way that looks like they were all drawn on the same page. It gives the illusion that I don’t make mistakes and no one has to know about all the sketches I threw away… although I may have just shattered that illusion. Oops.

The Boba Fett cover from last week is now available in my store!

If you want to see these progression shots sooner, please consider following me on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. I try to post something different on each site. See you next Saturday!
